Road Trip

Boulder. With quite possibly the best person in the world. I love you, M!

You should read this book:

Read This Book!

So Gina Holmes new book, Crossing Oceans, is going to be released on May 1st. And you should buy it. Just do it. You know you want to!

I enjoy S.J. Hill more as a speaker than as a writer. I imagine that he’s kind of like Paul in that way. Part of it, from what I can assess from his writing, is that he seems to be more a dichotomist vs. a trichotomist. And those of you who know me, know where I stand! Body, soul, spirit! =)

Overall, a decent devotional book. Great book for my FYI students given our topic at hand: The Heart of the Father. Excellent in conjunction with Lifetime Guarantee which clearly delineates trichotomy.

So, I recently added a link to my friend’s blog (see sidebar) Ahab’s Quest, and I have to admit that I am more than slightly jealous. This could potentially lead to some competitive blogging in the near future.

Beware

WiSM 2.22.09

Sunday again. Nothing.

Going to B&N to check out some books. Would go to Tattered Cover to support my local independent book store, but it’s way across town. Feeling lazy… Will make up for it at a later date.

Alaska

I’m going. This summer. As a youth worker for teens. I can’t stop smiling!

I need to decide:
a. What to call my summer adventure.
b. What books to bring–I feel like they should be somewhat culturally relevant, right?
c. Where the cheapest place to purchase batteries for my camera is.

One of my Colorado friends said, “Alaska is like Colorado, but on steroids.” I am in love with Colorado (and sad I won’t be able to experience it this summer), so I can only imagine: even bigger mountains, amazing nature… I feel the need to cry or hug somebody.

Wow, I am so blessed.

I Just Discovered

Zoetrope.com. Also, I know several writers on the site which means that I am probably going to become severely addicted, which also means less GRE studying. And I really need to focus on that. But I don’t wanna!

Also: http://www.copper-nickel.org featuring a calendar of several area readings. I attended one tonight which was phenomenal. There is also one tomorrow in Boulder featuring:

4×4 Reading Series
Jan 22, 7:30, CU, Old Main Chapel
Michael Flatt, CU MFA poetry;
Marream Krollos, DU PhD fiction;
Marie Larson, Naropa MFA poetry;
Jared Schickling, CSU poetry.

I am hoping that I am able to talk with Marream re: DU and fiction. Fingers crossed!

Colorado Christmas

Looking out the window of this hollywood hotel,
Youd never know that it was christmas eve.
The billboards and the neon took the place of silver bells,
And the temperature is 84 degrees.
I can hear the traffic on the crowded strip below
As the palm trees poke their heads above the scene
Theres not a single reindeer and it hardly ever snows,
And santa drives a rolls royce limosine.

But all along the rockies you can feel it in the air
From telluride to boulder down below
The closest thing to heaven on this planet anywhere
Is a quiet christmas morning in the colorado snow

I remember Christmases when I was just a boy
In the morning I would run to see the tree.
And the carolers on the hillside sang their songs of Christmas joy
Well, I always thought they sang them just for me.
Now the sun is setting in the California sky
And I cant find the spirit anywhere
So I think its time for me to tell Los Angeles goodbye
Im going back home took for Christmas there

But all along the Rockies you can feel it in the air
From Telluride to boulder down below
The closest thing to heaven on this planet anywhere
Is a quiet Christmas morning in the Colorado snow

Where are all the good books?

So, I am wondering why all of my favorite authors currently have nothing new published. Are all of the books currently lost in the annals of the editing world? Where are my books when I need them? Without them, of course, I feel compelled to read “canon-esque” stuff. And I am not in a canon-esque reading mood. I WANT BOOKS! NOW!

Write, people, write (in no particular order):

Dee Henderson

Britta Coleman

Richard Russo

John Cheever (Yes, I know there is a bit of a glitch with this one. But, here I am going to assume that writers can write from Heaven).

Liam Callanan

Lori Wick

Amanda Davis (Again, I know there is a problem with this. But, I would have to say that Amanda is one of my favorite 20th century woman writers).

Dave Eggers

Okay… so… write. Now. Faster. Please.

😉 Signing out from the great state of Colorado 😉
