…moral codes and endorphic reactions in a three hour phone conversation last night. The things you do in the name of love/friendship. Mostly, I kept trying to define my terms (so “x”=”y”, right?), but my conversational partner told me to look at behavior and not definition (i.e. if you see a mom holding a baby that=LOVE, but I might call it=GOD). The linguist in me struggles with this. If I am going to have an intelligent conversation with someone who has a different belief system than I do, shouldn’t I be able to speak the language? Isn’t it disconcerting of me to approach an intelligent conversation on religion/relationship while only using behavior as a means of discussing my terms? It’s not scientific… not valid… not truthful.
